Somm’s Picks for April 2019
Ch. Vignot St Emilion Grand Cru 2008
The nose opens with earthy and stewy fruit tones. The palate is rich and silky with round red fruits which is just evolving from freshly ripened into dried fruits with lots of vanilla mixing with earthy undertones.
The winemaker for Ch Vignot is Pierre Seillan who has received more than 10 100 point scores for his many wines.

Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc 2017
The nose is fragrant with a bouquet of lemon curd, yellow apple, lemongrass and hints of apricot. The palate follows through with layer of fruit and is surprisingly rich yet crisp making it a very easy drinking but satisfying Sauvignon Blanc.
Rombauer Vineyards was inspired by founder Koerner Rombauer’s Aunt who authored ‘The Joy of Cook’ and helped propel Koerner’s love of food and wine together.

Contino Reserva 2012
The nose is enticing with notes of violets, orange rind, black fruits, and gravel. The palate adds additional complexity with undertones of red cherry and clay that’s almost tart. The wine drinks easily out of the bottle but could age for 15 more years!
The Contino property has been producing wine since the 1500’s and according to tradition Saint Gregory, the patron saint of vineyards, passed through it around that time. Contino still uses the image of Saint Gregory on the labels.
– 94pts James Suckling –
Sideral Red Blend 2015
The palate is incredibly supple and rich with loads of black fruit, notes of crushed granite, and a harmonized eucalyptus note. Such richness, suppleness, fruit concentration, and balanced acidity is rare in wine under fifty dollars.
Sideral was founded in 2001 with the idea of taking the best of Bordeaux wine making techniques to extract the best flavors the foothills of the Andes could produce.
