Somm’s Picks for January 2017
This month’s picks are led by #64 wine of 2016, Colomé Autentico Malbec 2014 – one of the purest expressions of Malbec on the market.
The 2012 Gruaud is a prime example of classic young drinking Bordeaux. With juicy plums and blackberries on the palate wrapped in tones of pencil lead, brioche and toast this is one you don’t have to wait 15 years to enjoy!
The château’s first owner built a tower in 1740 that looked over the nearby vineyards. Flags were flown from the tower to denote the nationality of the most recent customers as a way to boast to the neighbors that he had sold his wine.

Autentico is just like it is named. One of the purest expressions of Malbec: a palate of blackberries, plum, and cassis, some spice tones, and with tannins that are rich and thick yet supple.
Colome is the oldest functioning winery in Argentina founded in 1831. All their wines are made in a traditional style from vines over 90 years.
