Somm’s Picks for October 2019
Vatan Toro 2015
A weighty Tempranillo that has the nose that balances fresh berries, oak, espresso, and red earth. The palate is big and grippy, yet polished like a delicious iron fist in a velvet glove.

Gran Enemigo ‘Gualtallary’ 2014
Years from now people will be looking back at Gran Enemigo Gualtallary and kicking themselves for not getting it now. The ’14 is another instant classic that balances its black fruit, floral, mineral, and oaky notes into a harmonious blend that is without equal in Argentina.

Jackson Estate ‘Outland Ridge’ Pinot Noir 2015
Concentrated flavors of dark cherries, berries, sweet baking spices, all harmoniously balance on a smooth and clean palate. A pinot with these intense concentration and roundness is hard to find especially with a finish that’s fresh.
Outland ridge is located on Anderson Valley’s eastern ridge giving it more sunshine and great freshness due to its cooler temps at higher altitudes.
